A Lagrange Point is a position in space where the gravitational forces of two large bodies, such as Earth and the Moon or Earth and the Sun, produce enhanced regions of attraction and repulsion. These points labelled L1 to L5, allow for stable positions for satellites and other objects in relation to the two larger bodies.
ISRO’s Aditya-L1 was successfully placed in a halo orbit around L1 point. The Aditya-L1 spacecraft entered into its final destination orbit, some 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. Earth's average distance to the Sun is about 150 million kilometres from the Sun.
Joseph-Louis Lagrange was an Italian mathematician, physicist and astronomer, later naturalized French.
