Australia is a country and continent located in the southern hemisphere. It is the world's sixth-largest country by total area. The Australian Dollar is the currency of Australia. Australia has a population of around 25 million people. The capital city is Canberra, and the largest city is Sydney, both of which are located on the east coast of the country.
Geography of Australia: The country is surrounded by the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and its nearest neighbors are Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. The Great Dividing Range is one of the country's most significant geographic features. The Nullarbor Plain is a vast, flat, and almost treeless expanse in southern Australia. The Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef system, is located off the northeast coast of Australia. The country is also home to several significant bodies of water, including the Murray-Darling River Basin and Lake Eyre.
History of Australia: Australia is a nation that is culturally diverse and rich. The country is also renowned for its rich cultural heritage and fascinating Aboriginal culture. European exploration and settlement began in the late 18th century, when Captain James Cook arrived on the east coast of Australia in 1770. The nation has experienced periods of economic, political, and social growth and change. The discovery of gold in the mid-19th century led to a gold rush that attracted people from all over the world.
Flora and Fauna: Australia is home to a wide variety of birds and animals, including some of the world's most unique wildlife. Eucalyptus trees (also known as 'gum trees') exude a resinous substance, commonly known as gum or kino, when the bark is damaged or shed. Koalas can eat more than a pound of eucalyptus leaves a day.
Cultural Life: The country is home to several prestigious film festivals, including the Sydney Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival. The Sydney Opera House is located in the Sydney harbour, New South Wales. Some of Australia's most famous dishes include meat pies, pavlova, and fish and chips. Australia is a sports-loving nation, with a particular passion for cricket, rugby, and Australian rules football.
