  • Indigo is a natural dye that has been used for over 5,000 years and has played a significant role in history:

    - The name indigo comes from the Greek word indikon, which means "from India".

    - The British forced farmers to grow it instead of food crops.

    - The original American flag was made from indigo textiles.

    - Indigo was used in ancient times in India, Persia, Egypt, and Peru. The deep blue, almost violet shade produced by the indigo plant was highly sought after.

    - Indigo was most probably imported from India. The Romans used indigo as a pigment for painting and for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. It was a luxury item imported to the Mediterranean from India by Arab merchants. India was a primary supplier of indigo to Europe as early as the Greco-Roman era.

  • The Indian National Congress dominated the Indian movement for independence from Great Britain. It was formed in 1885, and led by prominent figures like Allan Octavian Hume, Dadabhai Naoroji, and Dinshaw Wacha.

  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is India's national space agency.

ISRO was founded by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai with the vision to utilize space technology for India's development.

ISRO has developed a series of launch vehicles like the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). In 2013, ISRO made global headlines by successfully launching Mangalyaan, India's first interplanetary mission to Mars.

Since then, it has launched several space systems, including the Indian National Satellite (INSAT) system for telecommunication, television broadcasting, meteorology and disaster warning.

ISRO plans to put astronauts into orbit with the Gaganyaan spacecraft in 2025.
