May 08, 2024: The Olympic flame arrived in France on Wednesday on board a 19th century ship with thousands of spectators lining the roads. The flame was brought to the southern French port of Marseille from Greece on a three-masted ship called the Belem. Marseille is located in the Provence region of southern France, west of the French Riviera, along the Mediterranean Sea. Marseille is the oldest city in France, as well as one of Europe's oldest continuously inhabited settlements.

Its 68-day journey will begin with 10,000 torchbearers visiting some of the historic places in France. The Olympic flame will also cross the Atlantic Ocean on the Ultime Banque Populaire XI, as well as the Indian and Pacific oceans for the ‘Ocean’s Relay’, which will reach five overseas territories: Guadeloupe, French Guyane, Martinique, French Polynesia and the Réunion.
